rain, rain, go away... ...come again some other day... all the world is waiting for the sun.

Interesting little diddy... Breaking Benjamin (fronted by Ben Burnley) is known for taking childrens tales, songs, etc., and turning them into catchy rock tunes (there is a song on their first album "Saturate", called Home, about the Wizard of Oz). They have a track on their album "We Are Not Alone" called "Rain"... Ben uses that line in there... so that is stuck in my head right now, in light of the current weather we have here in gloomy Central Illinois. It is January (and not even Mid January) and it is in the high 50's and POURING rain! I think Seattle should take this back. They are better prepared. Here, we have flooding on streets, roads, yards. It is crazy... It started last night around 5:00. It then came on like a train... nix that... It came on like a fully loaded UPS 747. A train would have a MUCH slower build up to speed... this came rushing in like it had four Pratt & Whitney turbines strapped to it, and it felt like most of it was aimed straight at my house! I was in Miranda's office upstairs with my mitre saw getting ready to cut the piece of trim that goes over one of the guest bedroom doors... Miranda's office window faces Northwest, so (during the day) it has a lovely view over some fields and onto the Bloomington "skyline". At any rate, I was up there getting ready to cut, roughly facing the window, and i see a HUGE, skyline engulfing Flash, then almost instantly, an even more intense localized flash... then a bunch of sparks... at the same time, a HOUSE RATTLING "BOOOOOOM!". Lightning struck a transformer on the corner of 1950 E and Cheney's Grove Road. The power went out for about 2 seconds, then came back on. SHEISSE!... This sucks. I finished what I was doing then promptly headed down to the basement. I am in full Crisis Management mode now. I wasn't sure how long the power was going to stay on, so I used what little time I may have to get everything that is on the floor in the basement UP and OFF of the floor. 10 SOLID Poplar doors, 1100 feet of trim and casement molding and about 60 Rosettes and Corner moldings. Not to mention all of my tools, extra wire, ... pretty much everything. Fortunately, me being the GENIUS that I am ;-) I had my Geo-Thermal Heat pump and two 50 Gal. Water Heaters installed on top of cinder blocks, so, worse case scenario, I can handle up to 8 inches of water in the basement before any of the vitals go. ...anyways, 2 hours of being the Human Fork Lift, and the basement is prepared, should my sump pump lose power (or just go teets up).

Rain, rain, go away... come again another day... all the world is waiting for the sun...

politics

romney wins michigan!» WOOHOO! Mitt Romney has taken Michigan with 39%! McCain took only 30%... I consider that to be a decisive win! Romney won the Wyoming caucuses as well (though the media pigs will NOT tell you that)... so that makes two wins for Romney! We are on the way! So now we march on to Nevada and South Carolina. I am EAGERLY awaiting for 2 things now... SUPER TUESDAY, when I get to cast MY VOTE, ...

vacation

vacation, red sox, and a security breach» ...ah... so vacation was nice. Time with my sister and her family is always a blast. My brother in law (Dwayne) is a trip and I love spending time with my niece and nephew. Dwayne, my dad, and myself built a set of stairs for his newly built deck. That was a ton of fun. I enjoy building things. It is a way to see things take shape immediately. Dwayne had already prepped the holes and we put ...

drywall clowns» OK... Bear with me for a few minutes here, for what follows is a last resort "venting" for me in an attempt to salvage (at least) some of my sanity...

When it came time to hang drywall in the new house (an exciting time, as you get the first glimpse of spatiality... what the rooms really look like...) I started shopping out bids. So, as I had been using a lot of subs that were ...
